Meta's Chief Global Officer Said That Europe Is Heading Down The Wrong Path On AI And Will Not Be Signing The Act

Joel Kaplan, Chief Global Affairs Officer at Meta, stated in a LinkedIn post that Meta will not be signing the European Commission's code of practice for general-purpose AI (GPAI).

He wrote, "European is heading down the wrong path on AI", stating that the code introduces a number of legal uncertainties for model developers, as well as measures which go far beyond the scope of the AI act.

The General-Purpose AI code of practice helps industry comply with AI act legal obligations on safety, transparency and copyright of General-Purpose AI model. This code was released on July 10, 2025.
