Berlin Data Protection Commission Reports To Google and Apple To Ban Deepseek From Its Store in Germany
Deepseek, a subsidiary of High-flyers, is a Chinese artificial intelligence company founded by Liang Wenfeng in July 2023. It is controlled by Hangzhou Deepseek Artificial Intelligence Basic Technology Research Co., Ltd. Meike Kamp, Berlin Commissioner of Data Protection and Freedom of Information have reported that Deepseek processes users' personal data, including all text prompt, chat histories and uploaded files and transfers them to Chinese processors and stores it on servers in China. Meike Kamp described this act to be unlawful as German user's data in China needs to be protected same as the European Union. As at June 27, 2025, reports have been delivered to the largest app platform, Google and Apple for reviews and decisions to consider a ban on Deepseek in Germany.
